We are not in an occupation right now, so what we need most urgently are:
- your time
- monetary donations
- food and drinks for events
- large public meeting places
- places to store camp supplies
If you would like to donate money online, you can do that here.
If you have questions you can contact Donations at 804 223 0231.

We need clear plastic tarps to build shelters. If you have heavy duty transparent tarps to donate, we need them. On Tuesday morning, our police liason says the Police have told us not to erect tarps because they cannot see what’s going on inside the tarps. We have not yet asked if clear plastic will satisfy their concerns. (I know this is all silly because a tarp erected overhead will not hide anything from view of police. Still, I think we are wiser to construct clear plastic shelters than opaque shelters).
I will ask legal & police liason to ask police if clear tarps are OK.
I talked to legal about the generator and they said no go due to noise ordnance. We have someone willing to donate and set one up for us, but I am unsure as to its specifications or how loud it actually is. Can we get a clarification on what exactly ‘small generator’ means?
There are such things as “quiet” generators, though not that quiet. Having worked on many outdoor festival, I think you would need a permit for this. Not sure that the city is going to permit anyone where you are.

I don’t have a generator handy, but I’ve seen folks at the farmers market use marine batteries hooked up to an inverter for electricity. The main challenge would be maintaining a charge on the batteries. Maybe a trickle charger from a solar cell?
do we also need apple cider vinegar? i just put out a request for some. if so, how much should we request? I don’t suspect we’ll need much, if any, but I was asked to request it..
ok. for the generators, even IF the noise ordinanace was to say you couldn’t use it during the night, you CAN use it during the day-time hours. If i’m not mistaken, up until around 10 or 11 pm. at that time, you can use batteries to take you through the evening hours. however, during the day, they cannot deny you using generators. I worked many, MANY, events throughout the city, and the only complaint is using it during sleeping hours for permits. many households have generators attached to them, and they don’t need permits to use them when the power goes out, so as long as the generator is a ‘small’ one (not industrial strength… people who know gen’s, know what I mean), they cannot stop you from using it.
Having used a small generator during the hurricanes, I can say unequivocally that they are loud as hell. Also, they spew out toxic fumes that will make anyone standing around sick.
We need DOG FOOD, for those who have brought dogs with them, but cannot afford to buy them food. It was my understanding that this is a growing concern.
What kind of dog food or does it matter?
Have you all thought about putting something on this website that allows people to donate online? I know that people have complaints with some, like paypal, and there may be unwanted charges, but there are others out there that might work. That would be easier and hopefully more secure than mailing cash or checks.
Paypal does not want anything to do with us, and for the moment, investigations into competing companies in the same field are bust.
We will keep looking into it, though, and we should have something set up shortly.
What are your preferred stores for gift cards?
Trickle charge is good, but just a reminder, you can’t set batteries on concrete…kills them, set on a peice of wood. In Fl, dog food is good price @ Dollar General, $6 for 14.5 lbs. I feed 5 huge guys here & they have coupons @ times for $5 off when u spend $25. Sometimes cashier’s have a few extras, usually good for only Friday’s or Saturday’s, so check it out. I have a Lg flat rate box of toileties & laundry supplies to offer, but need shipping address. Last time I sent to NY, but decided to consider Richmond, since you guys just got raided.
